The nature of Michaelmas as a street fair makes it impossible for us to limit numbers coming into town. With more people holidaying in the UK and the fact that so many other events have been cancelled, it is highly likely that the Fair would attract extra large numbers this year. This would make it impossible for us to maintain any form of safe social distancing and the Committee feels that this would be of potential danger to our community’s health. As responsible organisers we are not prepared to take on this risk.
We have taken advice from Shropshire Council who feel that it would be unwise to run with a street fair with no possible control of numbers attending. We have also reviewed the approach taken by other local festivals. Most have been cancelled for similar reasons.
